What a day it was at the 3rd running of the Cat's Tail Trail Marathon! Here are photos that MPF's Joe & Elizabeth Azze took along the marathon route. 

Ben talks about his 2016 race at the Escarpment Trail Run and how his day went chasing after Matthias Lipsey again at the 2017 running of the mountain goats. This was his 18th Escarpment!

A quick recap from the weekend, including a video that follows Mathias Lipsey and Ben Nephew during their last couple of miles of the Escarpment Run and captures the sights and sounds of the finish line.

This was a race for the ages! It was the 5th running of one of the more rugged 50 mile trail ultramarathons in the US. It was a very dark day, with hot, humid and wet conditions. Not the ideal situation for photographs but the perfect conditions for an epic adventure.

Amy was attempting her 5th consecutive finish of the Manitou's Revenge Ultramarathon & Relay and become one of the only athletes to have successfully completed this epic adventure each year since the inaugural running in 2013. It was a fight to the end.

This is a 54 mile adventure that runs through the heart of the Catskill Mountains of New York. These are extremely rugged and mountainous trails. This was Ben's 2nd time running the race. In 2014 he placed 2nd to Jan Wellford. Coming off an injury, Ben wasn’t sure how his day would go...

Here is just 4 minutes of the 13+ hours it took MPF RNR athlete Kehr Davis to negotiate the 54 miles from Big Hollow Road to Phoenicia, NY on some of the most challenging terrain the East Coast has to offer.

Our latest film is about 20 minutes and takes us to the Catskill Mountains of New York where we have a casual discussion with Ben as we climb Blackhead Mountain before we get to see what he does best. 

This is going to be more of an incident report than a race report, as David Kilgore’s injury was the story of the day, and the craziest thing I have seen in 20 years of trail racing.

Just a few photos from one hell of an adventure in the Catskills of New York!

There are 35 high peaks in the Catskill Mountains that are above 3,500ft elevation. People that summit all 35, plus 4 of them in winter, can become “Catskill 35ers“. For most people that is enough. I am not one of those people.

Today (Sunday the 31st) was the 40th running of the Escarpment 18.6 Mile Trail Run. We had pouring rain and slick conditions, but with the hearty souls that toed the line and the volunteers the braved the conditions, the 40th running of the Escarpment Trail Race was an epic success!

Manitou’s Revenge is the best race in the world for me. Tough terrain, tons of climbing (+/- 16,000 ft) and a long enough distance (54 miles) to be able to go slow and steady. In other words, very little running. After last years time of 13:14, I was excited to see what I could do with very dry trails and the forecasted low humidity.

Mile 32ish. Somewhere near the top of Indian Head Mountain…lying down on a rock, calling my mommy…texting 2 possible pacers that I wouldn’t be needing any pacing at Mink Hollow since I would be dropping out there...

Race day is when you plan for all of your hard work and preparation to come together. It takes a lot of courage and commitment to even get to the starting line of any ultra endurance event. Some days you have the race of your life, while others don’t go quite as planned. This weekend was a perfect example of that.

When my wife asked me what time I would be finishing the Cats Tail Trail Marathon, without even thinking I replied “Well it’s only a marathon, so it shouldn’t take too long.” She laughed...
